Bernart is the brash younger brother of Albert. The two of them grew up in the merchant town of Tongue Bool (in the Timpano Desert), but Bernart saw Albert's interest in entertainment as a waste of time. While his older brother worked earnestly toward his goals and eventually went off to travel the world, Bernart became a good-for-nothing prankster who was bitter about being left behind. To make matters worse, Bernart fell for the brothers' best friend, Lana, and even saved her life by finding a cure for her when she fell deathly ill...only to find out that she only had eyes for Albert. In bitterness, he allowed Lana to think Albert had saved her.
Bernart is one of the stronger members of the Red Orcas, a battle guild in their town. Their leader turns out to be none other than Jhuchu, and after you defeat her, Bernart storms off in a rage. He only returns after hearing that someone has stolen the Book of Balca and attacked Lana, and in an effort to get it back, he reluctantly guides you through the desert to the Balca Ruins. While there, he finds an herb to help with her injuries, and finds the courage to finally tell her the truth about the past.
