The Clay troops are a resilient bunch. They seem to be much smarter and more battle-savvy than most of the Jell baddies, but they are susceptible to extreme cold and electricity.
Season 1[]
The Clays are first seen in Episode 10 where they run a dig in desert filled with human slaves. They use their black tar-like bodies to blend into the shadows at night, and after they are defeated by the Searchers, they return with Pixie's reinforcements to challenge them again. This time, they use Mickey, a captured slave, as bait.
Captain Clay seems very authoritative when he is with his troops, but when he has to report bad news to Pixie he always trembles with fear, and with good reason--when he finally tells her that the Searchers have helped the slaves escape, Pixie blasts him with a lightning bolt and kills him without so much as a second thought.
Season 3[]
A few Clays survived as baddies after Moo was sealed into the Dark Disc at the end of season 2, and they work for General Durahan.
They show up on episode 67, helping Mew attack the Searchers to retrieve the Dark Disc from the Searchers for Durahan. They first meet in a forest near Colart, after having set up an obvious trap for them as per Mew's orders. The baddies stand before their enemies while holding humorous props (a large turnip, leeks, maracas, fans, spatulas, balloons) as "weapons". The Clays doubt his intelligence and tenacity, guessing that his brain hadn't thawed fully after being frozen in the general's collection of warriors. When they're quickly bested by the Searchers' combined forces, they're forced to flee for the time being.
Hours later, they return, now spying on the Searchers just outside Rosetta's restaurant as she teaches him how to prepare the perfect pizza to help her participate in the restaurant competition on the next day. They overhear Golem and the expert cook talking about her pizza's secret ingredient and, when the baddies discover how important it is to them, they make a plan to steal it and use that as ransom and force the Searchers to trade the Disc for it. This plan is almost ruined by Mew himself when he doesn't stay quiet while they spied on them, and the Clays had to force his mouth shut to stop him.
After waking up from his accidental nap, Golem discovers that Rosetta's special ingredient is gone and Mocchi notices a note on his back, written by the Clays, telling them where in the nearby forest to meet with them to exchange the Dark Disc for the jar. The Searchers split up, with Genki, Mocchi, Tiger and Hare leaving to meet the baddies while the rest attended the competition in the city. Not trusting each other, both sides send one representative to make the trade in the center as the others stayed far from them. When Mew gets the Disc, he starts boasting about it and the Clays have to remind him to return to their side to fulfill their plan, which he prompty does. Then, they reveal to the Searchers that the "jar" they got is no jar, but some deceit, and the rest ingredient is hidden elsewhere.
The Searchers chase them throught the forest until one of the Clays points at one of the trees where the real jar is being held by its branches. Mocchi excitedly jumps up to retrieve it but sets off a trap that they had prepared, getting them all caught inside a net. The baddies mock them and laugh at their victory, before revealing to Genki that the jar is the real thing this time, as they have no use for it. Then, the Searchers sarcastically tell them to check on the Disc they got, and only then do they suspect that it might be a fake. Mew sniffs it before biting down on it, shocking the Jells, discovering with great annoyance that it was something they had baked to deceive them. The Searchers increase their guts and break free from the trap, ready to fight them, and the Clays run with fear behind Mew, who stands proud in front of their powerful enemies. He challenges them, saying he can handle them before Tiger fires a Lightning at him, greatly damaging him, though he doesn't verbally admit his defeat and simply flees, being followed by the Clays. After this, neither Mew nor the Clays are seen ever again.
