Full Recap[]
The Searchers meet Niton, a monster who resembles a snail, who is a merchant. He sells them things that are supposedly helpful to them: a far-seeing telescope for Suezo (which he intends to use the spy on Holly, to the latter's annoyance), a bag of small pebbles for Golem, a cape that grants the wearer flight for Mocchi, oil for Genki's rollerblades, ointment for Tiger's fur, and a calculator for Hare. Niton also has the mystery disk that contains the Phoenix, and agrees to give it to Holly in exchange for her dagger, and she reluctantly gives it up. The Searchers go to a shrine to unlock the disk, but after a few attempts, it shatters. Hare discovers that the mystery disk is fake. They also discover that the things that Niton gave them are anything but helpful: Golem's bag of pebbles is actually salt, Mocchi's cape doesn't actually make him fly, Hare's calculator is faulty, Suzeo's telescope has a small figure at the end of it, the ointment on Tiger's fur has given him pink polka dots, and Genki's rollerblades break because the oil was doing more harm than good to the skates. Outraged by Niton's trickery, Tiger goes after him.
Meanwhile, Niton is confronted by Jells (whom he had given Holly's dagger to), who are angry with him for scamming them. When Tiger shows up, the Jells laugh at him before he scares them off. He then proceeds to attack Niton for his deception, but the others stop him and Golem stops Niton from escaping, saying that it isn't nice to trick people. That evening, as the Searchers return Tiger's fur to normal, Niton gives up his money in exchange for forgiveness. As Hare and Suezo charge him for tricking them, Genki stops them and lets Niton go. Holly secretly convinces Niton to get her dagger back from the Jells. He does, but also wakes up and bribes the Jells. Later that night, the Searchers and ambushed by the Jells, who bury them in the beach in hopes that the tides will drown them in the morning. It is revealed that Niton gave away the Searcher's location in exchange for Holly's dagger. The Searchers are angry with Niton's double crossing while Holly feels guilty for trusting him. As the Jells go to sleep for the night, the Searchers escape by morning and defeat the Jells. Niton had also gave Holly her dagger back.
