Blue Skies is the season finale of Season 2 and the forty-eighth overall episode of the Monster Rancher anime series. It aired in Japan on March 25, 2000.
Synopsis[]
Moo continues to go berserk, destroying everything in sight. Monol tells the Searchers that when the Phoenix's soul was separated from its body, it was separated into five monsters, who are none other than Mocchi, Suezo, Golem, Tiger, and Hare. In order to awaken the Phoenix, they must fuse together. There is a catch, however. If they fuse together, it will be just like when Big Blue fused with Pixie - they will cease to exist. With the shrine destroyed, only Genki's courage will be enough to fuse them together into the Phoenix. Mocchi, Suezo, Golem, Tiger, and Hare fuse together into the Phoenix's soul, which merges with its body and breaks free of the ice and fights Moo. Soon the Phoenix grabs onto Moo, who suddenly realizes that they were destined to eternal battle, and that he can't let the Phoenix nor himself exist. With that, the Phoenix and Moo destroy each other, vanishing in an explosion of light. All the Baddie crests disappear, causing the remaining Baddies to turn good, and all the Lost Discs turn into Mystery Disks, which can now be unlocked. Afterwards, Genki is sent back into his own place.
Full Recap[]
As Moo continues to attack uncontrollably, the dragons enter Mt. Kairus, only to discover that the Final Gate is destroyed. Monol is nearby, imprisoned in an ice cell, and reveals that the Magic Stone is also gone. After introducing himself to the dragons, they see Moo approaching. Falcon frees Monol and they all escape the cave, narrowly avoiding Moo. After reuniting with the Searchers, they inform them of the Magic Stone and Final Gate's destruction, which shocks them. This leads Hare to assume that the Final Gate is the key to reviving the Phoenix. Monel then tells the Searchers that when the Phoenix's soul got separated from its body, it was separated into five pieces and has merged with monsters, who are revealed to be Mocchi, Suezo, Golem, Tiger, and Hare. Monel further explains that the Magic Stone helped lead Genki and Holly to their companions and allies to revive the Phoenix and stop Moo. It is also man made as it merely served as a guide. In order to awaken the Phoenix, the five monsters must fuse with it, but they could cease to exist. With the shrine destroyed, only Genki's courage will be enough to fuse them together into the Phoenix. With the assistance of Holly, the dragons, Monel, and all of their allies, Mocchi, Suezo, Golem, Tiger, and Hare fuse together into the Phoenix's soul, but not before saying goodbye to Genki. They merge with its body and it breaks free of the ice and fights Moo. At one point, the group help the Phoenix by providing it with more courage. Afterwards, Genki is sent back into his world.
