An elderly man who lives in the mountain village of Yatagarasu with his son and daughter-in-law and their spunky young daughter, Eve. When she refuses to go to bed on what he calls "Ogre Day," Eve's grandpa tells her the story of the Ogre that terrorizes their village by stealing their children. In order to keep them safe, no one must leave their homes on "Ogre Day."
When she later goes missing, Eve's Grandpa goes into the forest to search for the girl.
