Genki is a hyperactive 11-year old boy and monster-enthusiast that gets sucked into the world of Pangaea through a time warp. With his boundless energy, intense determination and inability to admit defeat, he journeys with his friends to save the monsters from the threat of evil Master Moo.
In the Anime[]
Genki begins the anime series living in a city called Allenville on Earth, unaware of the existence of Pangaea and believing the world of Monster Rancher all to be a video game. Even so, Genki often daydreams of visiting the world within the game, and his obsession does not go unnoticed by his teachers, friends and family members.
Everything changes when he finally gets the new Monster 200X video game. He begins to play, using Holly as his avatar character and still unaware that as he directs her escape from the Baddies, he is, in reality, saving her life. Holly tries to unlock a Mystery Disc at the shrine at the same time that Genki inserts a new CD into his game console, and a portal opens from his world into hers. Genki witnesses the danger of the Baddies firsthand, and before he knows it he has joined Suezo and Holly on their quest to find the legendary Phoenix.
Eventually, Genki learns that he has the ability to sense portals between the worlds and can hop back and forth whenever he wants. Mocchi, the first monster companion he makes, also develops this ability, and they use it to visit one another.
In the Games[]
Oddly enough, Holly never makes mention of Genki in any of the games, and he doesn't appear as a character until My Monster Rancher, where a grown up version of Genki is one of your tournament opponents in C-3 Class. This could be attributed to the franchise's developers still deciding whether to include him in the games or make him an anime-exclusive character instead. In this game, he has a 51% win rate and a Rank of 15.
