Hengers are robot monsters seen several times throughout the anime series.
Season 1[]
A Henger makes a cameo appearance in the city of Aurora in the first episode.
On episode 18, the Searchers stumble upon a lost city that is still run by programmed Hengers and their caretaker, Techno Dragon. Together, they keep everything neat and tidy in this city, and whenever any structures suffer any kind of damage, they rush to investigate and fix it, replacing broken machines with new ones if necessary. They were developed to run forever off of solar batteries, programmed by Ancient people to care only about the maintenance of the city, and will attack anyone who enters without a citizenship card, deeming them as hostile intruders and seeking to exterminate them. Due to their strict programming, they can only chase invaders as long as they're within the limits of their home; as soon as they step beyond them, Hengers stop caring about their pursuit and return to patrolling.
One of the Hengers, though, accidentally malfunctioned one day and gained self-consciousness and free will. He left his home to bitterly discover that the ancient war was over and tried to convince the others of this, telling them that there was no reason to keep maintaining this city, for their masters were long gone. He didn't succeed and ended up being dismembered and discarded in a dump just outside the city. He's found and rebuilt by the Searchers after they're forced to run away from the city, losing, among other things, the Magic Stone. In return, Henger guided them through secret paths to reach the underground base where the stuff that the Hengers confiscated earlier was being kept. During their escape, as they're chased by Techno Dragon and the Hengers, the free Henger acts as a diversion so the Searchers can leave safely, getting blown to pieces but surviving. He's offered to join them, and though honored, he ultimately declines in order to try to convince the others that they're free now.
Hengers are seen again on episode 26, when the Searchers get to the Robot Manufacturing Plant. There, they watch a video explaining how the robots, including Hengers, are built. They are also seen being manufactured as weapons in the flashback during Monol's story about the Ancient Wars.
Season 2[]
As revealed by Pixie, the banished Henger that the Searchers befriended became part of a resistance led by Jim, along with several other good humans and monsters, fighting against Master Moo's armies in other places. This could mean that he succeeded at freeing his Henger friends living in Electri-City.
He is also shown giving his courage to the Phoenix in the final battle, boosting its power to fight the now-berserk Moo.
