In the anime series, Genki and his team unlock an ancient Monol that knows a lot about the time before the monsters were sealed in discs. He frequently falls asleep during his stories, but he becomes a pivotal character in the fight against evil in the series.

Season 1[]

While crossing the desert, Genki and the Searchers find Monol's Mystery Disc and take it to a shrine to unlock it, releasing him. At night around a small fire, Monol tells them a story about The Final War. He explains how the ancient people had mastered technology and were able to store the genetic information of artificially-made creatures into CD Roms, but then a war erupted between different factions that lasted for years. Then the ultimate creature, Moo, was created, revealed to be a massive dragon-like beast. Moo attacked everyone and turned on his masters, drawing darkness from the hearts of others to grow stronger, even turning monsters to his side. The survivors banded together and created a monster capable of fighting Moo, the Phoenix, which was equal to Moo, able to turn bad monsters good and revive those that had fallen. As the story reaches its conclusion, the survivors made a machine that could stop Moo by separating his mind from his body and used it against him, but also separated the mind of the Phoenix from its body. The aftermath had turned the monsters into discs and destroyed the world.

The next day, Monol leaves the Searchers to tell his story to others.

Season 2[]

Monol is captured by the Baddies and brought as a prisoner to Mt. Kairus where he is interrogated for information about how to complete Moo's merge back into his old body. It is through Monol that they learn about the Final Gate and the Weed troops are sent to retrieve it.

Monol is later rescued by Falcon and taken to safety.

Trivia[]

  • Taking into account of the series' lore and events of Monster Rancher 4, there are some disrepancies in Monol's story in Episode 12: Monol's Story:
    • In Monol's story the Pendant civilization was responsible for the birth of monsters and the development of Mystery Discs, but in Monster Rancher 4, they replicated monsters' pre-existing nature.
    • Contrary to Monol's statement where Pendant scientists created a Phoenix to combat Moo, in truth, they upgraded the pre-existing one, who was none other than Suzaku the Phoenix himself.
  • Monol was voiced by David Kaye in his debut episode, and by Brian Drummond for every following appearance.
