Monster Rancher Wiki

Naga is one of Moo's Big Bad Four in the anime series, his second-in-command and by far the cruelest of the Baddies. He is also the one with the most powerful underlings, living in a gigantic stone castle atop a mountain, governing the north of the Northern Continent. Naga is the fourth and last of the chief villains that the Searchers defeat.

Appearance[]

Naga is a snake-like, reptilian monster based on the mythological creature known by the same name. Unlike his game counterpart, which is a shade of violet, he's a darker shade of purple. He has lilac skin on the fins at the sides of his face and below his chest, all the way down to his tail, which ends in a sharp sting. He has three clawed fingers on each hand, small, pupil-less amber eyes and several sharp teeth in his big mouth.
After being resurrected as a good monster, he lacks the baddie crest on his chest and wears a long, black high-collar cape with a small golden chain connecting both sides of the piece below his collarbones.

Season 1[]

In the past, Naga attacked Holly's village under order from Master Moo to steal the Magic Stone in order for him to locate his original body. During the invasion, Naga and his troops killed everybody in the village, humans and monsters alike, with Holly and Suezo as the only survivors of the massacre.

He makes his first personal appearance on episode 7, during a meeting between Moo and the Big Bad Four, where they get scolded for taking too long to extend his reign throughout the world. He informs Pixie that the Searchers are within her designated area and asks what she'll do about them, not getting much of a solid reply from her.

Season 2[]

In Episode 28, a Cabalos walks into Naga's castle and speaks to him at his throne, informing him that Gray Wolf was defeated, asking to join his followers (interestingly enough, a Cabalos is part Tiger, part Naga). Instead, Naga grabs him by the neck, calls him a weakling and flings him out of his castle, where the Tiger falls to his death; without batting an eye, he summons one of his most powerful henchmen, Stone Dragon, to get rid of the Searchers.
The henchmen who previously worked for other Big Bad Four members (such as the Kuros for Pixie, the Zuums for Gali, and the Jaggernauts for Gray Wolf) united under Naga after their previous masters were defeated and enjoyed to serve their new leader more than their original ones.

When Suezo finds out from Pixie and Big Blue that Naga is after them, the Searchers decide to attack him first. During the assault on his castle, the team fights valiantly and defeats (or at least, distracts) all of his henchmen, some of them (Suezo, Holly, Genki and Mocchi) managing to reach his throne room, where he's waiting. Suezo, seeking revenge, asks to be let to fight him alone, but he's easily overpowered. He does get to land a few hits that actually cause Naga some damage, but that only annoys him more and Suezo ends up losing. Genki and Mocchi try to hit him, but they can't do much against him, and end up falling unconscious for a moment. Naga then approaches Holly, as the last one standing, and forces her to walk backwards to get away from him. When she takes her father's dagger out, he notices she's wearing the magic stone as a pendant and tells her that the invasion to her village was all because of that jewel. She then asks if Moo himself had ordered that assault, and he confirms it, saying he had orders to make everyone suffer as much as possible as well, which almost makes her cry. Seeing her in trouble, Suezo mentally asks his deceased friends from the village to grant him some power to attack Naga, and when he's ready to strike her, Suezo jumps forward and bites him on the shoulder, inflicting a lot of pain on him and leaving a red wound on his skin that Naga's forced to cover with his hand, immobilized by the pain. It takes the baddie some effort to dettach Suezo from his shoulder, but, when he does, he tosses him elsewhere. Genki and Mocchi, barely standing once more, charge a powerful Mocchi cannon that he fires directly at Naga, leaving him hanging precariously over the side of one of the turrets. Wounded, in pain, Naga is unable to get back up and he's about to suffer the same end he gave to a Cabalos from Graywolf's troops that had asked to serve him on episode 28. When Holly, followed by Genki, Mocchi and finally Suezo all offer a hand (or a tongue, in Suezo's case) to save him, claiming that not helping the enemy would make them as bad as Moo himself is, Naga realizes the error of his ways, recognizing as well that the Searchers' strength comes from their friendship and bonds, and declines their help, saying that he had followed the path of darkness too long and decides to let go, falling to his death.

Season 3[]

At some point, between episodes 48 and 63, Naga is revived by an unknown human at a shrine, returning as a good monster without a baddie crest. He meets Genki again outside a Kawrea pub, saving him from a ruffian Dokoo with ease. He explains to the Searchers that after being revived he had no techniques, so he had to train to relearn them and, at the time of meeting him, he's confident that he has regained his full strength. He agrees to be Mocchi's partner in the World Cup, something that the whole group is excited about, because his breed was one of the required ones to enter and they hadn't had much luck finding another monster who'd fight alongside them. Everyone is over the moon about getting his help... except Suezo. His long-standing grudge against Naga for the destruction of his village hasn't gone away simply because Naga claims to be good now. Nevertheless, Naga competes alongside Mocchi in the tournament, even after finding out that their opponents are none other than Naga's old evil allies Gali and Sandy, both of which had been contacted by Poison to make them join the baddies' side again.

After Mocchi's battle, Naga fights Gali and tries to convince him that becoming a baddie again is not the way to find true strength. Despite his strength, Gali's techniques get him the upper hand, and Naga ends up receiving several consecutive blows from him, almost getting defeated. The Searchers send him their courage to empower him, but it isn't until Suezo also does that he manages to overpower Gali, stopping his punches and making his spirit vanish. After delivering the final blow and winning the tournament, they meet up with Gali and Sandy again, who seem to be seeking revenge at first, but then warn them about the baddies waiting to ambush them. Once Poison and her Zuums are scared away, the ex-Big Bad Four colleagues part on good terms, agreeing to keep training to become stronger, because becoming a baddie isn't the right way to do that. At sunset, Naga lets the Searchers keep his half of the prize money to help in their journey and tells Suezo that he won that match thanks to his support before saying goodbye to the group. When Suezo finally overcomes his grudge against him and expresses his desire to fight him in the future, wishing him luck until then, with a smile, Naga agrees and leaves.
