Panchos are nothing more than pumpkin shells with animated, chipmunk-like seeds living inside. They use several rolling attacks and like to surprise their enemies and have very high defensive abilities because of their habit to find objects with hard surfaces to live in. Panchos were first introduced in Monster Rancher Explorer as a weak enemy, and were next seen as unlockable monsters in Monster Rancher 3 (although not available to breeders below B rank).
Panchos have appeared in every game since. Most of the time they are found peeking out of their shells but have been known to leave them whenever they are hit hard enough. The Panchos in the Monster Farm Online installments hold a shell on a stick over their heads like an umbrella, possibly because they were originally designed as different species called Yeti. Eventually that idea fell through and Icheyo was just considered a Pancho sub-breed. In some games there is a non-playable Pancho that guards items on Adventures. It's called Jack-in-the-Cho, and lives inside a treasure chest.
There is a non-playable Pancho used as an enemy in Monster Farm Online just called Pumpkin, and the monster inside is never shown.
Etymology[]
The name may come from panpukin (パンプキン), the Japanese transliteration of the English word pumpkin. As such, the intended name may have been Pumcho.
Nearly all Pancho sub-breeds have the -cho syllable at the end of their names.
