Becoming soulmates is a process where monsters can form a special bond with wild monsters that allows them to learn a special technique. Soulmate relationships are tracked by the SAA.
If you get 20 soulmates in the game, you can get the password to unlock the monster Pickle at the Shrine. If you get 50 soulmates, you can get the password for Rainbow. Soulmates can be made in-game with stray monsters or over a link cable with monsters that are trained by a friend. There are three levels to soulmate creation:
- The two monsters could become Friends; nothing changes between the two of them, but a friend is added to your list. Your monster can have up to 10 friends.
- The two monsters could become Best Friends; your monster learns a Soulmate Tech and changes its personality, and a friend is added to your list.
- The two monsters could become Soulmates; your monster learns a Soulmate Tech and a friend is added to your list (If using a link cable, this can only be done between two trained monsters who are within two Ranks of each other).
Two things can make soulmate creation easier: the better you beat the wild monster in battle, the easier it will be to become soulmates. Also, gaining the Popular characteristic makes it more likely.
A retired monster CAN make friends that count toward your total. Also, the same friend can be made by a different monster.
