Zuums are medium-sized dinosaur monsters that are easily domesticated and are often used in place of horses in Pangaea. In some games, such as Monster Rancher 4, you can ride your Zuum on explorations in order to overcome certain obstacles in the way. They are considered cousins to the popular Dino species, and love to play. Their attacks are similar to Dinos', using their tails and quick combo moves that involve their legs, tails, or both. Occasionally, they can also spout fire. Zuums have well-rounded stats, but they excel at speed and accuracy.
Zuums have multiple crests upon their heads and a beak-like snout, making them resemble Velociraptors, while the Dinos look more like the Tyrannosaurus. Wild Zuums are known to travel in packs. Starting in Monster Rancher 3, Zuums are redesigned to be more lizard-like, with snake-like eyes and less-noticeable scales. Although they replace the Dino species in Monster Rancher 2, in the later games, they themselves are replaced by the Shignil species.
Etymology
The name Zuum is a creative spelling of the word zoom, which denotes when something moves very fast. Their name in Japanese is Roadrunner.
